Who we are:
James Bay Distillers, Ltd. is a craft distillery, spirits manufacturer and exporter of super premium Canadian, Scotch and American whiskies, gins, vodka and finocchietto. We distill and operate from Everett's Paine Field Airport (where you can have a cocktail made from our spirits at the airport bar!). Our goal is to make every spirit a "sipping spirit," exceptional right from the bottle. To your right you see our two co-founders, Ernest and Leigh Troth, who are joined by a number of other investors and supporters in our quest to make a wide selection of best quality internationally inspired spirits. In May 2021 we conducted a successful Wefunder Reg CF raise, and updates can be seen here with an SEC summary here.
Ernie and Leigh bring broad international and professional experience to James Bay Distillers, which has informed our selection of new products and flavors. We select ingredients local to Everett and Mukilteo whenever possible, prefer organic ingredients and botanicals and strive to create spirits which are the best in their category.
We formed our company and business concept while living in Virginia, then moved to British Columbia in 2017 where the City of Victoria and the Province of BC loved our plans, but we didn't quite find the right spot. So, we pivoted in 2018 when we found Paine Field, which has proven to be a great location for production, distilling, sales and barrel-aging. Plus, we have tons of parking! Following the usual delays for Federal and State permits, we started selling whisky in September 2019. Since then we've added over a dozen products with gold medals. Ten of our spirits are rated 90-points or higher, four are "double-gold" medal winners, and we have one "whisky of the year!" Our Inner Harbour Scotch whisky has the same awards from the Tokyo Whisky Competition as the 18-year Johnnie Walker & Balvenie.
We work in a 3000 sq. ft. industrial space north of Seattle at Paine Field where we are distilling, blending and infusing whiskies, gins, vodka and finocchietto. We are right between the two runways on 111th Street SW, and so every departing flight shakes our building a bit - whiskies are "shaken, not stirred!" Especially when our neighbors at Boeing depart with their Dreamlifter!
For a current view from Paine Field, try this webcam located about about mid-field on the east side of 34L/16R looking north.
You can watch Alaska airlines arrive and depart, and the occasional touch-and-go flight by the US Navy. Photo from April 2023.
